Vincent Van Duysen designs the Giro outdoor furniture collection for Kettal
It all started with the rope and the idea of ââusing the material in a different way – sewing it together to create the shape of the product itself. This is how the idea of Giro the collection of outdoor furniture has started. Conceived by Vincent Van Duysen for Kettal, a great source of inspiration was the Orkney chair, a classic example of vernacular product design.
Van Duysen drew inspiration from the past with today’s technology in mind, for example using a recycled polypropylene rope rather than a traditional rope. With great respect for Orkney tradition and craftsmanship, it has been translated into a modern product, using Kettal technology and craftsmanship. Using a natural and durable material that can withstand all types of weather, the chair is comfortable and welcoming. Teak adds another authentic quality. The Giro collection here uses armchairs and coffee tables as a starting point, with a larger versatile collection to come.
It was our first collaboration with Kettal. It was a pretty intense and effective way of working together. The process of developing these new materials was really a challenge for them and for us and it seems that our mutual understanding resulted in a very nice collection, which expresses both Kettal’s and VVD’s vision.

You will see the attention to detail throughout the Giro. It’s in the twisted rope pattern, its thickness and stitching, and stitching details. Carpentry details, edge radius and teak sections. It is a collection that blends into indoor and outdoor environments thanks to clean lines and tactility. The Giro collection is available in four frame colors and a wide range of Terrain fabrics.
