During Austin’s endless summer, the temperature regularly soars above 100 degrees, the sun is out for more than 12 hours, and you’re faced with a constant dilemma: crank up the air conditioning and binge your millionth Netflix show, or hang out. to enjoy all the summer activities Austin has to offer.

The former may be more comfortable, but the latter reaps greater rewards. So, slather on sunscreen and step out to cool off in a spring-fed swimming hole, defy gravity and feel the air on your face, or enjoy the breeze while listening to a musical in the park.

Wakeboarding at Quest ATX

If you’re looking to try wakeboarding, there’s no need to rent a boat for it. ATX Quest is the first and only wired wakeboard park in Austin. The facility has various rails, obstacles and jumps for all levels: hardcore wakeboarders, casual amateurs and beginners. The park also hosts a summer camp for kids, as well as non-wakeboarding activities like paddleboarding, jump rope, and waterslides.

Barton Springs Pool

This jewel in Austin’s crown is part of Zilker Park, Austin’s 351-acre public park located in the middle of our city. Fed by underground springs, Barton Springs PoolThe water remains stable at 68-70°F all year round. The people watching are great too: Barton Springs draws a diverse crowd of people, and the abundant grassy areas are perfect for lounging.

Zilker Botanical Garden

Also located in Zilker Park, the Zilker Botanical Garden presents on 28 acres a series of themed gardens, connected by paths with waterfalls, streams and ponds filled with koi. Highlights include the Taniguchi Japanese Garden, butterfly trails, and a “prehistoric garden” filled with dinosaur sculptures. The garden is open to the public with a reservation system.

Zilker’s Summer Musical

Bring a chair or blanket from home and celebrate the magic of Broadway shows at the Beverly S. Sheffield Zilker Hillside Theater in — you guessed it — Zilker Park. No tickets or reservations are required to enjoy one of the annual outdoor musicals hosted by Zilker Theater Productions; this year, you can stomp on a production of Newswith performances from Thursday to Sunday until August 13. Coolers are allowed (no glass containers or alcohol), and a concession stand and rental chairs are available on-site.

Zipline Adventures on Lake Travis

Want to fly? Just a 30 minute drive from downtown Austin, Zipline Adventures on Lake Travis offers a guided aerial tour via some of the longest and fastest ziplines in Texas. After an exhilarating three-hour zipline experience over the canyons and Lake Travis, guests can relax in hammocks, picnic or swim at their private lakeside property.
