This semester, everyone can support Beavers athletes, both inside and outside at American River College.

Due to COVID-19, fans weren’t allowed to watch indoor sports for nearly two years, but as of August 20, students can once again watch sports in person.

According to Steven Roberson, CRA Dean of Kinesiology and Athletics, the campus is ready to host indoor and outdoor games. COVID-19 protocols will be followed to ensure safety on campus.

Indoor games require proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test. In outdoor games, supporters are not required to present proof of vaccination or a negative test.

“Having the fans back on campus will provide an opportunity for our student-athletes, it will increase the level of competition and allow them to be seen by some recruiters, get a scholarship and transfer to a 4-year college. “, Roberson said. “It’s really important to have that energy that only the fans can bring, it provides an environment that the athletes like to have.”

Student-athletes are looking forward to this opportunity, although some are a little nervous.

“It’s exciting to have fans watching our games again, but also a little unnerving,” said Aurora Meneghetti, an ARC volleyball player. “I think it will take some getting used to again.”

Meneghetti said when first experiencing a game with fans, the mood was very different. The team was more motivated to play harder, which made them feel like they were part of the community as well.

“When people weren’t allowed in the gym most of the time the games were quiet, but now the gym is so loud,” Meneghetti said.

Isaiah Rheaume, an ARC football player, believes it’s a chance for athletes to build their confidence and, at the same time, show their support for the school and the community.

“Being able to support other indoor sports will be helpful in building relationships with other college mates,” Rheaume said. “And a chance to improve social skills.”

Fans can now purchase tickets to cheer on the Beavers, at Beaver Athletics website.

Various purchase programs are available on the site. ARC students get free entry to all sporting events.
