SPRINGFIELD, Missouri– Evangel University recently received a $1 million donation to serve as the lead grant for the construction of an outdoor sports and performance facility on its campus. This facility will allow the university to develop and expand its sports complex and will house the football program, athletic trainers and the university weight room.

“Our goal is to improve the student experience on campus,” Dr. Mike Rakes, president of Evangel University, said. “This donation will allow us to move forward with building plans to house athletic programs and provide an exceptional training environment for our student-athletes.”

The donation comes from university supporter Shirley Rowden, a philanthropist from central Missouri who believes in the university’s mission and Dr. Mike Rakes’ vision for the next phase of campus development.

“We are very grateful for the generosity of Mrs Rowden,” Hector Cruz, Senior Director of Development, said. “This donation is key to Evangel’s ongoing improvements that make this campus a university of the future.”

The total cost of the project is being finalized and fundraising is underway.

Groundbreaking is expected to take place later this year with a ceremony held during the university’s annual Homecoming celebration in October.
