ST. GEORGE- Last Saturday at Enterprise, 50 volunteers from the community, faith groups and local businesses helped organize the Enterprise Outdoor Games, an annual event for people with special needs held on National Service Day.
The City of Enterprise helped sponsor the event by providing its community park building, a public address system, and a fire truck.
The event brought together 90 people with disabilities and their families.
Festivities included a hay walk, petting zoo, side-by-side rides, karaoke music, dinner with Enterprise candy corn, and plenty of group-friendly games.
“I believe this event is life changing,” said participant Trisha Dacus. “Families with special needs can enjoy a day together that works for everyone in the family. Volunteers of all ages can meet new people they probably wouldn’t have met otherwise.
Dacus added that being a mother of a child with special needs, this program has helped her family enjoy a fun-filled day without anyone feeling left out, as everyone can be involved in all the activities. .
Brenna Thomas, who also attended the event, said this event also shows young people the importance of serving.
“I loved being part of the event as a volunteer and involving my kids in serving the community with special needs,” she said. “It is so important to learn from an early age to serve and to serve with love.”
Another participant, Nichelle Richins, said it was an honor to be part of the event.
“The event was a huge success and to be part of it is such an honor,” she said. “It’s an amazing way to serve a very sweet part of our community. These people and their families deserve all the good that life can bring. It was a fun and heartwarming afternoon.
