Children’s Museum provides outdoor activities | Covid-19

As a precaution against the coronavirus, the Northeast Texas Children’s Museum will focus on outdoor activities for its June calendar of events.

“Due to concern over COVID -19, the children’s museum is putting more emphasis on our outdoor space,” said museum executive director Sharline Freeman. “Even though temperature controls, hand washing and frequent disinfected cleaning are part of our indoor policy, some parents may still prefer to play outside for their children.

“We have a great outdoor space, which includes the State Farm ship, an area of sand, and a dry riverbed with shark teeth,” she continued. “However, we are adding specific outdoor activities to improve the area.”

Weekly outdoor activities are planned for the Children’s Museum, starting with a Davis Family Animals tour this Friday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The following week, Friday, June 19, the outdoor area will become an obstacle course with water balls instead of basketballs to shoot on goal, tunnels and additional outdoor obstacles to overcome. This activity will be available in the morning at 11 a.m. and in the afternoon at 1:30 p.m.

The museum is also planning to host another activity featuring live animals later in the month, but has yet to set a date or time.

Next month there will also be a July 4th Egg Hunt on Friday July 3rd.

Under the sponsorship of Brookshire’s Grocery, 2,000 eggs were provided to the Northeast Texas Children’s Museum for the traditional Easter egg hunt. But, due to the closures related to Covid-19, the Easter egg hunt has been postponed and becomes the July 4 egg hunt. Again, there will be a hunt in the morning and another in the afternoon.

Regular admission to the Children’s Museum covers the cost of additional activities. The number of participants will be limited to help with social distancing, and reservations can be made online or by calling the Northeast Texas Children’s Museum at 903-886-6055.

Updates on summer activities can be found on the museum’s website at or on its Facebook page.
